The innovation of textured polyester thread for overlock machines by Romano Cavedon in collaboration with Sinterama marked a transformative moment for the Italian textile industry.

This partnership combined Cavedon's technical expertise in sewing applications with Sinterama's industrial-scale polyester production to create Laifil: developed on 1971, to replace Cotton Ne 50/2 sewing threads in the overlock of Cotton knitwear as Polo, T-shirt, underwear and Nylon or Polyester elastic fabrics as for sportswear, swimwear, etc.

False-Twist Texturing: The thread utilized "false-twist" technology, which imparts a permanent crimp to the polyester filaments. This creates a "bulky" texture that provides exceptional seam coverage.
High Elasticity : Unlike rigid threads, this textured variant offered significant stretch, making it compatible with the
knit and stretch fabrics (like jersey and polyester blends) that dominated 1970s fashion.
Thermal Stability: Polyester naturally resists discoloration at high temperatures and retains its shape better than natural fibers, allowing the thread to withstand the heat of industrial pressing and domestic ironing.
Friction Reduction: The smooth, continuous filaments reduced thread breakage and lint buildup in overlock (serger) machines, which operate at much higher speeds than standard lockstitch machines.

Sold in thousands tons/year to the most important textile brands, after over 50 years it is still the unique solution for light knitwear as polo and T-shirts, underwear, sportswear, swimwear not only for overlokcing but also for sewing.
